It seems that many of us now have ‘food issues’ or things that we can or cannot eat and that has become the norm. Turmeric in your milk, butter in your coffee, raw deserts and no gluten – ever! The dietary world has certainly changed and continues to change very fast. But one thing is for sure – healthy water and a healthy diet must go hand in hand.
Here are a few food trends that are currently very big in the wellness world.
Intermittent fasting
Although fasting immediately conjures up grumbling stomachs, nausea and feeling weak, intermittent fasting is an eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting. Most people actually fast every day while they are asleep. So intermittent fasting simply extends that fast a little longer by eating your last meal at eight pm. You skip breakfast, and eat your first meal at noon.
But isn’t breakfast the most important meal of the day? This was the common thinking but in fact the body responds well to short fasting periods. When we fast, we get significant reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels and a drastic increase in human growth hormone. Some people do intermittent fasting as a simple and effective way to restrict calories and burn fat. Others just say they feel more energized.
Bulletproof Coffee Made With Healthy Water
A companion to intermittent fasting, bulletproof coffee is a high-performance drink that not only staves off those hunger pains but also can have a positive impact on your energy and cognitive function. It involves adding fats – coconut oil and grass-fed butter – to your coffee and blending it to make a foamy latte. As odd as it sounds it can be delicious and will definitely give you a morning boost that lasts. And don’t forget to make it with healthy water infused with hydrogen!
Fats are in, carbs are out
The Bulletproof, Ketogenic and Paleo diets all have two things in common – low carbs and high fats. These reset your body’s ability to re-program your metabolism to start burning stored fats for fuel and energy. This is instead of first burning beneficial glycogen that is stored in your muscles. You essentially teach your body to burn unwanted, stored fat first and prevent your blood sugar from spiking and falling. Many people enjoy the benefits of these diets although they are quite restrictive and take some adjusting to.
Fermented foods
As someone who grew up in a household where sauerkraut and pickles were staples, I’d have to say that fermented foods have been around for years. Cultures from around the world have enjoyed foods such as kimchee, kefir, yogurt, miso and tempeh. Not only are they delicious but eating fermented or “cultured” foods is the most convenient way to obtain a daily dose of beneficial probiotic or “good” bacteria.
More and more studies show that our intestinal flora, or good bacteria, become eroded by medications we take, the types of fats we eat, and processed foods. Over time this can cause inflammation and promote the growth of bad bugs. This can result in all kinds of health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, allergies, depression and cancer to name but a few.
Ghee that’s great
As many people are going dairy-free, they are also embracing the many health benefits of ghee. Ayurvedic health science has confirmed for thousands of years the wonders of cooking with and eating ghee. But isn’t ghee made from butter you ask? Ghee is made from butter with the milk solids and impurities removed, so there are no lactose or casein intolerance issues. It has a nutty flavour that enhances your soups and sauces and a high smoke point so it will not break down into free radicals like many other oils.
Ghee is rich in antioxidants and medium chain fatty acids, which are absorbed directly by the liver and burned as energy. It’s easy to make and will last 2-3 months if you keep it in an airtight container. For instructions check out: https://elementallifesolutions.com/pages/videos
Drinking soups
Move over smoothie fans! Drinkable soups are heartier, tastier, and more filling. Packed with organic antioxidant-packed produce, often extracted using high-pressure processing (HPP), they’re the new hot way to get your five-to-ten servings of produce each day. No need to heat so they are super convenient for a healthy meal on the run. And don’t forget to make them with healthy water.
H2 infused water
And speaking about drinking, hydrogen infused water is the latest healthy way to hydrate your body. Since about 2007, scientists in Japan have been studying the effects of Molecular Hydrogen, or dissolved hydrogen (H2). There are now over 500 published scientific papers and peer reviewed studies available. They have found hydrogen enriched drinking water to be highly beneficial for over 150 diseases. These include Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, stroke and trauma, inflammation, injury recovery, and more.
Many people have reported benefits from using alkaline water ionizers. However scientists and researchers only understood in 2007-2010 that the therapeutic property in alkaline ionized water was hydrogen gas. This new research has resulted in the water ionizer industry being completely revolutionized to take advantage of this new information.
